Look, we didn't set out to build just another hotel. Back in 2008, the Martinez family stumbled upon this old vineyard estate that honestly looked like it'd seen better days. But standing there at sunset with the Okanagan Valley stretching out forever? Yeah, we knew this place had something special.
The main building was originally a 1920s winery - you can still see some of the original barrel rooms if you know where to look. We spent nearly three years restoring everything, trying to keep that old-world charm while making it, y'know, actually comfortable for modern travelers.
What really gets us though? It's watching guests arrive all stressed from their travels, then seeing them two days later - wine glass in hand, feet up on their private terrace - finally breathing again. That's what Luminar Quinta Vix is really about.
We're sitting on 18 acres of working vineyard here - mostly Pinot Noir and Chardonnay if you're curious. Our winemaker, Jacques, he's this French-Canadian guy who's been making wine longer than I've been alive, and he's pretty particular about things.
Every morning you'll see him out there checking the grapes, muttering in French. But here's the cool part - guests can actually walk the rows, help with harvest season if they're visiting in September, or just grab a bottle and find their favorite spot among the vines. It's your vacation, do what feels right.
We're not trying to be the biggest or flashiest hotel out there. What we care about? Creating this little bubble where you can disconnect from the chaos, reconnect with what matters, and maybe discover some amazing wine along the way. Simple as that.
Our spa wasn't an afterthought - it's built into the original stone cellar. Cool right? The natural temperature down there makes it perfect for treatments.
Chef Maria sources everything locally - and I mean everything. She's got relationships with farmers all over the valley. You can taste the difference.
We've got about 45 people working here, and honestly, they're what makes this place tick. From housekeeping to the front desk to the kitchen - everyone's genuinely invested in making your stay memorable. A bunch of them have been with us since we opened, which says something.
You'll probably meet Sofia at the concierge desk - she knows every hiking trail and hidden gem within 50 miles. Or Marco, our sommelier, who can pair wine with anything (seriously, try him). They're not just staff, they're the heart of Luminar Quinta Vix.
It's the little moments that remind us why we do this
We've hosted anniversary celebrations, marriage proposals, family reunions, and everything in between. Some guests come back every year - that never gets old.
We're working on reducing our footprint - solar panels, composting, water conservation. It's a journey, not a destination, but we're committed to doing better.
Kelowna's been good to us, so we try to give back - supporting local businesses, hosting community events, that sort of thing. We're neighbors, after all.
